Here’s something new this year. In order to encourage people to pre-draft as much as possible, the waiver claim order for week 1 will be based on shortest average time per draft pick. Keep in mind that if you trade for a pick that is on the clock that you will inherit that time into your average. So, everyone please do your best to make trades before the pick is on the clock and pre-draft as much as you can!
Due to the possibility of losing players temporarily to Covid, we will be adding two additional IR slots for a total of four for this year only! We will also reserve the possibility of adding two more IR slots sometime during the season if a lot of teams are unable to fill starting lineups - at the discretion of the commissioners.
Since the NFL has announced an “opt-out” policy for their players, we are looking at possibly delaying the start of the NFLFFL draft. It would really suck to have just spent a 1st round pick on a superstar only to have them “opt-out” right after you picked them.
Here’s the plan for the draft timeline…
We start the draft on the evening of Friday August 7 OR one day after the “opt-out” deadline for NFL players, whichever is later.
If Friday August 7 arrives and they still haven't announced the opt-out date, then we wait to start the draft. How long? No later than Friday August 28,
Why? Because we will probably need at least ten days to two weeks for the draft (see below). The waiver wire order / pre-drafting incentive should hopefully help speed things up a bit.
Even if the “opt-out” date is after Aug. 28, again, we would still need that much time to get the draft in. Unless, of course, they move back the start of the season. Then we may need to re-visit the timeline to determine when to start the draft.
Length of draft in days
2019 draft = 11 days
2018 draft = 16 days
2017 draft = 18 days
2016 draft = 18 days
2015 draft = 12 days
