I know... I know! You need another Fantasy Football league like you need another hole in your head.
However, please hear me out.
I am trying to recruit a few of you for another league. I am looking here because I have been in this league since the start (started as Saint and then have been Packers ever since)and kind of know some of you from interactions over the years but mostly know that you are top-notch people and/or fantasy owners and that’s what we're looking for.
What the league is?
I have been in this league called the MAPLE (Mauston Area Professional League) for about 10 -15 years as an owner, but not the comish. We’re getting long in the tooth, and the league has kind of fallen apart over the last year. There are 4 of us that would like to keep it going and try some new stuff; Me(Luke), Chris L, Chris W and Randy G. If you don’t ask our wives, most people will say we're pretty good guys! Usually, it had 10 to 12 owners with a traditional league scoring and setup.
It has a few things going for it besides the 4 GREAT owners left.
It is FREE!
It’s an auction league (for the first time)….which none of us have ever done but want to try! That could be to your advantage if you have done those before.
It has a colossal traveling trophy (about 4 feet tall)! Champion gets name on it and keeps it for the year. I’ll ship it to you if you win…..but if you win in 2020, you send it to the next owner in 2021.
We are 3 Packer fans and 1 Bears fans so if your not a fan of the NFC North, you may get your home team players cheap. A-rod and Trubisky might be pricey!
The 4 of us are very competitive, but not in a bad or rude way…the league is not a high-pressure league …we are all coaches…we like the NFL…but mostly just like competition! Each of use will really try to kick each others butt, but we will be nice about it!
DETAILS “MAPLE 2019”
Free League on ESPN (No cost)
Play for NAME on the traveling trophy
10 teams (minimum) or more
Auction draft ($200 fantasy money)
Draft is Monday, September 2nd at 7 pm CST
Auction waivers ($100 fantasy money)
16 man roster
Start 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 FLEX, 1 K, 1 DEF
Basic scoring (PPR, ALL TDs 6 pts)
Keeper League (up to 5 players in offseason)
PREMISE
Auction leagues work virtually the same as standard leagues except for the way in which players are drafted. Instead of each team taking its turn to draft a player, each team will take turns nominating a player to be bid on.
In standard auction leagues, teams will have a fixed draft budget, starting at $200. The draft is principally conducted like a real auction.
DRAFT
After a player has been nominated to be drafted, teams can begin to place bids on the player. The team with the highest bid will win the player, and the amount bid will be deducted from that team’s budget. This will continue until every team has a full roster of players.
Generally, each team is restricted to a maximum bid for an individual player. The maximum bid is determined by taking each team’s remaining budget and subtracting the number of empty slots available on each roster.
In other words, if you have 15 roster spots and $200 available and you bid $41 on Adrian Peterson in the first round and win the bid, you will have 14 roster spots and $159 available dollars, making your next maximum bid $145.
WAIVERS
You will have a $200 budget for the draft and a $100 budget for picking up free agents. When these dollars are gone, no more transactions can be made, so bid with caution.
Free-agent waiver pickups are handled in a completely different way than in standard leagues as well. Instead of there being a waiver priority (based on team rankings in reverse order), all teams have an equal chance at getting any available free agents. It simply comes down to who has the highest bid, so again, having a good knowledge of player value can be paramount to your success.
TRADES
Trade Deadline Nov 20, 2019 @ 11:00 AM CST
Trading occurs as it does in a non-auction league. You cannot trade auction or waiver money.
KEEPERS
You may keep up to 5 keepers per year, but the cost of a keeper will increase $5 from the drafted price, and the total cost of your keepers will count against your $200 budget for the following year.
So for example, if you got a player for $12 and wanted to keep him, the following year he would cost you $17, and if you kept him again the season after that his value would be $22, and so on.
Any player that is traded from one team to another carries with him his auction price when he moves to a new team. Any player dropped goes back into the auction the following year to be rebid on.
